Change. Sometimes it is planned and sometimes it is not, but change is always happening. How we handle it is simply a matter of perspective and attitude.
If we are content with the current circumstances and not looking for change, it can be disturbing and upsetting when it comes. When we’re not happy with the current circumstances, we might be excited and welcome a change, making the assumption that the change will be for the better.
In either situation, our appreciation of the change coming into our life may ‘change’ itself as time passes on. The unwelcome change may become an unexpected delight. The initially welcome change may show itself to be a change for the worse instead of for what we assumed had to be a positive.
So, don’t be too quick to pass judgment on the change coming into your life. More importantly, don’t try too hard to avoid change or stop change from happening. Change is part of life. It is to be expected.
Instead of fretting about unexpected change, go ahead and grieve the loss of what was and then let it go and move forward. In these circumstances the Serenity Prayer provides us with the best approach to change.
